Calling  for  Disarmament



Trident Ploughshares has recently joined the Phone Coop,  and were attracted by the possibility of using a coop instead of helping some fatcat shareholders get rich.   



We also liked the fact that the Phone Coop offsets all its own CO2 emissions,  together with the emissions of the phone and power companies it uses.  None of the other phone companies currently do this. 



We are saving money, and so can you.  If you apply through us,  the Phone Coop will pay us a 6% royalty on your calls for as long as you are a customer,  so that every call you make reaffirms your support for our campaign.



The biggest saving is on short calls,  especially if you hang up on hearing an ansaphone,  as the minimum charge is only 1.2p (incl VAT),  compared with BT's minimum of 5p:  a 76% saving!



UK landline rates are all cheaper or at most equal to BT's and international rates are even more competitive (available on request).  0845 calls, pagers,  and premium services are charged at BT rates,  but you still benefit from the lower minimum charge on short calls.



The Phone Coop service allows you to specify that any particular call goes over BT,  and we recommend you do that for mobile calls at weekends:  this is the only case we know of where BT offer better rates than the Phone Coop.



You will offered a free  0845 number,  allowing callers to reach you at BT local rates, but your existing phone number will still work.  You still rent your line from BT (or the cable co),  so services like 1471 or call minder are unaffected.
