Update: Trident Ploughshares is Alive and Well!

TP was not set up as a permanent campaign and every year a decision is made as to whether it should continue for another year. It has been agreed that for 2007 the campaign remains a useful and viable direct action contribution to the peace movement.
A few minor changes have been made to the campaign. Formerly those who were actively part of the campaign were called Pledgers - they will now be called Members. To be a Member you need to do the two-day Members Training and then be prepared to sign the following Commitment:
The UK’s nuclear weapon system (both the current Trident and the planned successor) is illegal, dangerous, a menace to the environment, a terrible waste of resources, and utterly immoral. It is not a defensive system - it poses an active threat. Although I recognise that there are many valid ways to respond to Trident, and to the systems which support it, I believe that resistance through non-violent direct action is necessary. I am committed to taking part in non-violent direct action against Trident, or providing support to those who do, and to doing so peacefully, openly, safely and accountably.
The campaign also wishes to put fresh emphasis on a key part of its design - autonomous affinity groups generating ideas and activities.
