Directions for Aldermaston blockade, Easter 2007
Monday 9th April, 2-6pm: RISC
Meet 1-2pm at Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC), in Reading
town centre. RISC is at 35-39 London Street, in Reading town centre. It
is opposite the Central Club (the building with the Black History Mural) by
the Inner ring road. It is also close to the Cinema end of the Oracle
Shopping Centre, and ten minutes walk from the train station via Reading
Town Hall.
See RISC website for details and a location plan. Parking is
limited during the day (not sure whether surrounding car parks are free on
a bank holiday: they are normally carefully monitored by a clamping agency.
See RISC website for details of where to park.
We will be having non-violence training, AWE briefing and blockading
discussion workshops at RISC, as well as general legal briefing. Everyone
coming to the blockade is asked to get to these sessions if at all
possible.
If you cannot get to RISC for 6pm, go straight to....
Monday 9th April, 6pm onwards: WAREHOUSE
We will spend the evening (and overnight) at the Warehouse, which is
part of Wycliffe Baptist Church at 233 Kings Road. It is about 1km east of
RISC, at the junction of London Road (A4) and Kings Road (A329).
Maps are on the Wycliffe Baptist Church website.
As well as eating and sleeping at the Warehouse, we will have transport
and brief legal briefings and planning sessions. Bring a sleeping bag and
mat if you have one (the Warehouse is in fact a sports hall, comfortable
but with a hard floor!).
Note that the whole event, including the blockade and preparations for
it on the Monday, is alcohol free (see non-violence and safety guidelines
on the main webpage).
Tuesday 10th April, early morning onwards: AWE
We will be blockading all parts of the Atomic Weapons Establishment
(AWE) Aldermaston, from 7am on Tuesday morning. If you are going straight
to AWE on Tuesday, please introduce yourself to one of the legal observers
who will be at the various gates into the establishment.
A multi-faith vigil will also be held from noon (see link to flyer on
main webpage).
We will not be returning to the Reading venues on the Tuesday evening.
If making your own way home, note that Basingstoke station may be closed
for engineering works (in which case there will be rail replacement buses
from there to Reading and London).
Any queries or difficulties
