Direct Action Against Aldermaston This Weekend

As fears grow that the government, if re-elected in June, will give uncritical support to the US Missile defence initiative, activists begin to gather tomorrow at Aldermaston, the UK’s nuclear bomb factory, for six days of direct action against the base.

The campaigners will seek opportunities throughout the weekend to disrupt the work of the factory in a variety of ways and they will take part in a blockade of the site, along with London Region CND, on Monday 14th May, from 7 a.m.

A Trident Ploughshares spokesperson said: "Here’s the bottom line for us
-  we can’t sit back and let this state carry on unimpeded its continuing threat to commit mass murder. The UK shows no sign that it is serious about getting rid of its weapons of mass destruction or that it intends to put serious effort into building real global security based on justice and mutual understanding."

On Saturday 12th May there will be a march through Reading, beginning at 11.30 a.m. from the railway station, and ending with a mock trial of Aldermaston executives in Broad Street at noon. On Sunday 13th May there will be an interfaith vigil at the main gate of the Aldermaston site at 2.30 p.m.
