Political Messages Of Support Continue To Flood In For Anti-Nuclear Campaigners
|
Strong messages of support from politicians for the Trident Ploughshares
international disarmament camp at the Aldermaston atomic weapons
establishment continue to flood in as the camp begins:
From Simon Thomas MP: " ...I am writing to wish you well in your attempts
to disarm the British Trident system and fully support your campaign of
non-violent direct action against such weapons of mass destruction."
From Robin Harper MSP: "Dear all at Aldermaston, Congratulations and best
wishes for keeping the issue in the public eye and focusing people’s
attention on the fact that we still make and research nuclear weapons in the
heart of the English countryside. I remember joining the 1959 Aldermaston
March, 43 years is not a long time in the great scheme of things - we must
win eventually!"
From Cynog Dafis AM: "Unfortunately it will not be possible for me to be at
the Aldermaston action, but I would like to register my absolute support,
including my admiration for your persistence and resolve. Nuclear weapons
are still a threat, and the capacity for destruction is terrible. We must
oppose any mention of their use in any context and that is why the words of
Geoff Hoon are so terrible."
From Michael Russell MSP: "Can I congratulate all those who continue to
stand up and remind the world of the madness of nuclear weapons and the need
to oppose them and the immorality they represent. Recent tensions between
India and Pakistan have highlighted how humanity has brought into the world
a potential destroyer of nations and people. But humanity can also banish
this spectre if it chooses and my thoughts are with those who are at the
disarmament camp in the coming week. They are showing a wisdom that the
world needs to follow."
