Blair Hijacks World Peace Process With Plans For New Illegal Nuclear Bomb Factory
|
Heralding a new era of government lies and hypocrisy, the Blair regime plans to build a new illegal nuclear bomb factory at atomic weapons establishment (AWE) Aldermaston near Reading in Berkshire, while telling all other non-nuclear states that they cannot have these weapons themselves. In direct contravention of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to which we are signatories, and the Geneva Convention, the government is trying to stealthily usher in a new age of nuclear weapons production.
These recently revealed plans which the government tried to keep secret represent a moral and
environmental disaster costing the taxpayer billions of pounds. They also betray any hope of the Labour government working towards a true and stable peace based on something other than "might is right" and the threat of mutual annihilation.
Labour MP Martin Salter of Reading West, a constituency downwind of Aldermaston - said: ’I am
appalled that plans have been drawn up to extend the nuclear weapons plant at Aldermaston without reference to local communities, or indeed Parliament.’
Trident Ploughshares and Aldermaston Women’s Peace Camp(aign) both condemn these plans as
immoral and illegal. Now, more than ever, there is an urgent need for responsible citizens to engage in active resistance to the Trident programme. We invite anyone who is happy to abide by our non-violence guidelines to join us in denouncing this nuclear madness and celebrating life and hope.
The Trident Ploughshares international disarmament camp at AWE Aldermaston continues today and tomorrow, ending on Tuesday 18th.
