"We’ll Be Back!" Promise Activists As Aldermaston Camp Ends
|
As the Trident Ploughshare’s international disarmament camp at atomic weapons establishment (AWE) Aldermaston ended today, activists promised to return to continue the struggle against the British government’s nuclear insanity.
Yesterday morning two activists, David Heller (UK) and Koen Roggen (Belgium) gained entry to the
base and remained undetected for an hour as they searched rooms and offices for information. Later in the day two more activists, Fr Martin Newell (UK) and Chris Gwyntopher (UK) entered the base as part of a citizens inspection of an illegal nuclear facility. The total number of arrests this camp stands at 9, and all activists have now been released from police custody.
David Heller said: "Our message is clear, we will not allow the British government to act illegally and immorally by threatening to kill millions of innocent people and ruining the environment with weapons of mass destruction. Only the truly deluded could think that this is any way to make peace."
With the disclosure of the governments plans for a new illegal weapons factory at AWE Aldermaston there is a more urgent need than ever for responsible citizens to engage in active resistance to the Trident programme.
The campaign continues...
Our campaign of direct action continues this summer with an August camp at Coulport in Scotland, near Faslane where the Trident nuclear submarines are berthed and at Devonport naval dockyard in Plymouth, where Trident submarine HMS Vanguard is being refitted.
