3) Young people in Trident Ploughshares

We value our young people, who give so much to the campaign and to the camps. If the workshop facilitators recommend that a 16 year-old who has done the two-day workshop can sign the pledge then she/he can be a pledger. However we see the sense in asking young people below the legal age limit in England (which is 18, as opposed to 16 in Scotland) to get their parents to countersign their pledges, and advising them, below the age of 14, not to get arrested. At the camps, we ask that no one below 16 stays at the camps without a responsible adult who has authority in writing from the parent. (To be added to 2.5)

4) When is an action a TP action, and when is it not?

A. It’s a TP Action when:

It is conducted within TP guidelines

B. It’s organised by TP or jointly by TP or during a TP camp.

OR

It’s done by a TP affinity group (non -pledgers can join and be counted but the affinity group has the responsibility)

OR

It is done by pledgers acting with others and the pledgers want to count it as a TP action for themselves. (the whole action still has to be within the TP guidelines though there is still a grey area: if some participants do not want to be accountable are the criteria met by the TP people being accountable?)

C. It is done at a Trident related base or site. We will also count and support wider actions taken by pledgers if they are directly related to the Trident system AND those involved want the Trident connection to be emphasised AND it aims at disarmament.

A, B and C must apply. NOTE Only pledgers can do TP "maximum" disarmament actions.

Of course we recognise that affinity groups can also do other non-Trident actions which are not TP actions. (add at end of 2.6)

5) Accountability. Truthfulness, accountability, and care for the reputation of TP are all essential to our campaign. This means that as a rule we will make ourselves accountable for our actions by either waiting at the scene of an action for police to arrive or by handing ourselves over to the police immediately afterwards. It also means that when arrested we will reveal our identities. Some exceptions can be envisaged such as delaying making ourselves accountable until an action is complete, when that action involves preparatory activities that may be arrestable.
