Lord Advocate’s Reference

From Mr. G.J.B. Moynihan, Faculty of Advocates, 3rd July 2000

G J B Moynihan Q.C. Faculty of Advocates, Parliament House, Parliament Square, Edinburgh EH1 1RF.

3rd July 2000

Dear Ms. Zelter, Lord Advocate’s Reference

I have taken time to consider your letter of 21st June.

Your letter wrongly assumes that I represent you. As amicus curiae I am independent of all parties and that means independent of you and, for that matter, independent of the Crown. My role is to provide assistance to the Court by ensuring that all relevant arguments are before the Court.

I will continue to act as amicus curiae subject, of course, to any directions that I may receive to the contrary from the Court.

Yours faithfully, G.J.B. Moynihan
